My Grandfather Icek Szerman was born c. 1880 in Lipsko, Poland and was married to Rywka (Rebecca Kampel Sherman) who was born in Ostrowiec in 1882. Rywka’s parents were Rachmil Kampel and Mindla (Szumsztajn).

The couple had four children: Chaim Ben Szerman born in 1901, Boruch born circa 1906, Pro/Perec/Peretz born in 1907, and my father Rachmiel Avrum born in 1909. Rachmiel changed his name to Charles Abraham when he arrived in the United States.

In 1910, Icek left Ostrowiec to Canada and then to the United States.  Rywka followed him in 1911 with their four children.
