Louis Starkman

Louis Starkman (born Leib Sztarkman) was born in Ostrowiec circa 1901.  Louis fled Ostrowiec alone in 1914 leaving behind his mother, father and 12 siblings.

In Toronto, he met Minnie Isenberg (born Mindel Ajzenberg) also from Ostrowiec and got married around 1923.  The couple had three children: Samuel z"l, Murray and Gerald.

Louis had various businesses on Spadina Avenue in Toronto, including a billiards place as seen in the picture above from 1930.  (Louis is on the left.)  He owned the Paramount Hotel and Bar for 42 years.

Louis was the president and a proud member for many years of the OIMBS (Ostrovtzer Independent Mutual Benefit Society), pictured to the right.  Louis is in the front row (seated), third from the left.
